Ed Walton

Mr. Walton received his B.S. in biology/chemistry from Southwest Texas State University in 1974 and his J.D. from Baylor Law School in 1986. He is admitted to practice before the Texas Supreme Court, the United States Supreme Court, the United States Court of Appeals for the Fifth Circuit and all four United States District Courts in Texas. He has been certified as a specialist in Consumer and Commercial Law, as well as Civil Trial Law by the Texas Board of Legal Specialization.

Experienced in both individual and class action litigation, Mr. Walton handles defense matters and commercial litigation for the firm's clients. A past chair of the Consumer Law Section of the State Bar of Texas, Mr. Walton has substantial experience in litigation involving claims under the FDCPA, the FCRA, the ECOA and the Texas DTPA. He has represented clients in United States District Courts in California, Nevada, New Mexico and Oklahoma. Immediately prior to becoming of counsel to Barron, Newburger, Sinsley & Wier, Mr. Walton was the District Attorney of Kaufman County, Texas. He brings substantial trial experience to the firm from both the significant number of cases he has personally tried and the number of cases he has managed. His experience spans both individual and class action cases.

Mr. Walton served as Assistant Disciplinary Counsel with the State Bar of Texas from 1994 to 1998. The State Bar of Texas has also recognized and utilized his legal skills in various leadership roles–including membership on the Pattern Jury Charge IV Committee from 1994 to 1998, vice-chair of the Consumer Law Certification Commission from 1991 to 1999, Steering Committee Chairperson of the Consumer Law Advisory Commission from 1991 to 1992, and treasurer and then chairperson of the Consumer Law Council from 1995 to 1999. He also served as a member of the Supreme Court Home Equity Loan Foreclosure Rules Task Force in 1997.

Mr. Walton is a frequent author, speaker and course director in the areas of litigation strategy and practice, as well as virtually all areas of consumer law. He has made presentations at legal seminars sponsored by the Texas Bar Association, Texas Consumer Law Council, University of Houston and Baylor Law Schools, National Association of Consumer Advocates, Texas Consumer Law Center, Texas District and County Attorneys' Association, Volunteer Legal Services of Central Texas and Travis County Legal Aid.
