Erin E. Jones
Ms. Jones received her B.A. in Latin American studies and Spanish from the University of Texas at Austin in May of 1998 and her J.D. degree from the University of Houston Law Center in May of 2001. She was Chief Notes and Comments Editor of the Houston Business and Tax Law Journal, Vice-President of the International Law Society and completed the Mexican Legal Studies program at La Universidad Panamericana in Mexico City. She is fluent in Spanish.
Ms. Jones was admitted to the State Bar of Texas in 2001 and is admitted to practice in Federal Court in the Western, Southern and Northern Districts of Texas. For three consecutive years, Ms. Jones has been named by Law and Politics magazine as a "Texas Rising Star," a distinction reserved for the top 2.5% of Texas attorneys who are under 40 years of age or have been practicing law less than 10 years.
Ms. Jones has experience in a variety of bankruptcy litigation, business reorganization and general civil litigation matters. She has represented companies and boards of directors in out-of-court restructurings as well as debtors, trustees, creditors' committees, purchasers of assets and individual creditors in bankruptcy cases. She has experience in a variety of bankruptcy litigation matters, including the representation of litigation trusts in the prosecution of avoidance actions and other estate claims and a variety of claims in civil litigation matters, including but not limited to employment disputes (Fair Labor Standards Act), contract actions, breach of fiduciary duty, professional negligence, RICO and fraud claims.
Ms. Jones frequently writes and speaks on a variety of topics. Representative examples include the following; "Fifth Amendment Privilege Against Self Incrimination in Bankruptcy Cases" – co-author with Allan B. Diamond, American Bankruptcy Institute Journal, April 2008; "A Primer: Effective Management of the Post-Confirmation Liquidating Trust" –co-author with Allan B. Diamond, ABI Spring Meeting CLE Materials, 2008 Spring Meeting, Washington D.C.; and "Almost Everything You Want to Know About the Business Provisions Under the Bankruptcy Abuse Prevention and Consumer Protection Act of 2005" – co-author and speaker, ABA Section of Business Law, 2006 Spring Meeting, Tampa, Florida.
Ms. Jones is an active member of the American Bankruptcy Institute, State Bar of Texas Bankruptcy Section, Houston Bar Association (Bankruptcy Section), International Women's Insolvency and Restructuring Confederation (IWIRC), the Honorable Arthur L. Moller/David B. Foltz, Jr. American Inn of Court and the American Bar Association.
