Kevin Evont Bowens
Mr. Bowens received his B.A. in history from Dickinson College in 1987 and his J.D. from the University of Texas School of Law in 1996. He is licensed to practice law in the State of New York, the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania and the District of Columbia. He is also admitted to practice before the United States Supreme Court, the United States Court of Appeals for the Fifth Circuit, the United States Court of Appeals for the D.C. Circuit and the United States District Courts for the Northern, Eastern and Western Districts of Texas. His application for admission to United States District Court for the Southern District of New York is pending. He is a member of the American Bar Association, the New York State Bar Association, and the Bar Association of the District of Columbia.
Mr. Bowens' practice focuses on various aspects of bankruptcy litigation, representing creditors, debtors and trustees in Chapter 7, 11 and 13 cases and claims litigation. Reported cases in which he has served as an attorney of record include Matter of Erlewine, 349 F.3d 205 (5th Cir. 2003) and Matter of Evert, 342 F.3d 358 (5th Cir. 2003). He also briefed issues in two seminal bankruptcy cases, Matter of Miller, 156 F.3d 598 (5th Cir. 1998) and Matter of Educators Group Health Trust, 25 F.3d 1281 (5th Cir. 1994).
Mr. Bowens currently serves on the board of directors of the Capital Area AIDS Legal Services Project and he has been a volunteer attorney for that non-profit organization. Mr. Bowens is a past member of the board of directors of the Austin History Center Association and served as the second vice president and membership committee chair.
